Mr Andrew Lewer MP visits Chatsworth School with an “educational outlook all of its own”

Chatsworth Schools’ Beech Hall School, Macclesfield was delighted to host Mr Andrew Lewer MP for Northampton South and the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Independent Education in his role of championing and supporting the UK independent school sector.

On his visit, Mr Lewer said “The Head – Mr James Allen, the Senior Leadership Team, the pupils and some parents I was able to speak with all made me feel most welcome.

My visit culminated with a discussion (which was extended as it was going so well!) with the Year 11 Prefects on some of the most important but emotive subjects in public life. The key lesson being – I hope – the importance of trying to understand the points of view of others, even if you do not agree with them.

Beech Hall is a small school in an interesting hidden setting with historic features and an educational outlook all of its own. Thank you to everyone there for the opportunity to visit.”

Regarding Mr Lewer’s visit, Mr James Allen said “We were delighted to welcome Mr Andrew Lewer MP last week.

He joined us for BBQ lunch on the lawn where he spoke with Year 10 pupils about a range of issues and then joined Senior Prefects for an hour where the discussion included migration, the NHS, Northern Ireland devolution, RAAC concrete, lockdown regulations and much more.

Mr Lewer was most generous with his time and candour and I think our pupils learned a lot about him as a politician, the process of government, and some had done a lot of research in terms of how he has voted on various issues which lead to some robust debate!!! Mr Lewer is welcome back to Beech Hall School anytime.

Founder and CEO of Chatsworth Schools, Anita Gleave said “We were delighted that Mr Andrew Lewer MP could spare the time to visit our amazing, groundbreaking gem of a school, Beech Hall School. Chatsworth Schools is hugely grateful to Andrew for his support of both our growing schools family, and the independent education sector as a whole.”
