2023 Crowned with first ISI Inspection under new framework

In October 2023, Crown House Preparatory School, High Wycombe was the first Chatsworth School to be inspected under the new ISI framework that no longer features a one word assessment as a part of an inspection report.

During the inspection, Crown House underwent a thorough evaluation encompassing all aspects of school life, including academic achievement, teaching quality, pastoral care, and leadership. Crown House received very good feedback across these areas, reaffirming Chatsworth Schools’ commitment to providing high-quality education for our children. ACADEMIC

  • The inspection recognised that Crown House has created a learning environment that is broad and engaging where pupils are able to make good progress in lessons.
  • Inspectors also noted that older pupils, were able to summarise and synthesis information and were enthusiastic, confident, and collaborative in their learning.
  • Inspectors recognised that the curriculum design in the early years enabled pupils to make good progress across all the areas of learning and that children engaged purposefully in a variety of activities.
  • They felt that the innovative and inclusive curriculum that Crown House pupils receive ensure a well-rounded education that prepares them for future challenges.

EARLY YEARS

  • The inspection recognised the strength of our early years provision, commenting of the strength of leadership, and the leaders’ understanding of the developmental needs of young children.
  • The inspectors recognised the warm and nurturing atmosphere of the environment and the excellent support staff provided pupils.

LEARNING AND TEACHING

  • The inspectors praised the high standard of teaching at Crown House, emphasising how teachers use their ‘good subject knowledge to effectively question pupils to help them recall prior learning and deepen their knowledge and understanding’.
  • The inspectors also commented on the engaging lessons, the ambitious development plans, and the effectiveness of the subject leaders.
  • This positive feedback is a testament to the hard work and passion exhibited by our teaching staff.

PUPIL WELLBEING AND PASTORAL CARE

  • The inspectors acknowledged the school’s exemplary pastoral care and commitment to the emotional well-being of our pupils.
  • They commented on the ‘comprehensive arrangements to promote pupils’ mental health and emotional health, which are highly effective in supporting the wellbeing of pupils.
  • The inspectors noted that our inclusive environment fosters a sense of belonging, ensuring that each pupil feels valued and supported whilst at Crown House.

LEADERSHIP

  • The leadership team at Crown House was commended for having ambitious plans for the school which are supported by the governing body.
  • The report comments that ‘Leaders are ambitious for the strategic development of the school. Their self-evaluation and development planning are accurate and wide ranging’.
  • The inspectors praised the strength of the Crown House community, identifying that pupils were confident that their views and opinions were listened to and considered important.
